What we collect, why, who sees it, and how to make it stop.

1. What we collect and why

Your account: your email address, a display name, your province, the first three characters of your postal code, your favourite team, and your birth month and year. The email signs you in and is how we reach you about a prize. Province and birth date are for the residency and age rules. Your team sets a scoring bonus and, if you ask for texts, decides which games we remind you about. If you tell us how you heard about the contest, we keep that too.

The first three characters of your postal code (for example T2P) tell us roughly what area you live in, never your street. We use them, with your province, to check prize eligibility, and to count how many players live in the areas our sponsors serve.

Your picks and the points they earn. That is the game, and it is what the boards show.

Your phone number, only if you turn on text reminders. Each text we send is logged (the last four digits of the number and whether it went through) so we never text you twice about the same game.

When you sign in, the IP address and browser you signed in from. We store them as they are, not hashed, so we can spot shared or hijacked accounts. They are not used for marketing.

How you first arrived: a cookie remembers the site that sent you, the first page you landed on and any campaign tags in the link. It carries no name. When you join, it is saved with your account so we know which posts bring players.

What you do on the site, as plain events: joining, signing in, updating your profile, viewing the boards.

When a sponsor's logo is on your screen while you are signed in, we record that your account saw it, so we can count how many people a sponsor reached.

If you write to us through the contact form: your name, email and message, kept with a hashed IP address and your browser, and emailed to us.

Standard analytics of pages viewed, through Google Tag Manager.

2. Who we share it with

The services that run the site, each seeing only what it needs for its job: Supabase (our database and sign-in), Resend (email), Twilio (text messages), Cloudflare (the network in front of our server, which is in Calgary) and Google (Tag Manager and analytics).

Sponsors get counts: how many people saw their logo, how many times, how many clicked, and how many players live in the areas they serve. They never get names, email addresses, postal codes or anything that identifies you. We never report a count for an area with fewer than 10 players.

If you win, we may need to give your name and a delivery address to whoever ships the prize. We will ask you first.

We do not sell your information. Beyond the above, we share it only if the law requires us to.

3. Cookies

A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in. It is set by Supabase and cleared when you sign out.

While you are entering a sign-in code, a short-lived cookie holds the email address you typed, for up to an hour, so the code step knows who it is for. It is never put in a link.

The first-visit cookie described above, kept for 30 days.

Google Tag Manager sets its own cookies for page analytics.

If we turn on a human check on the join form, it is Cloudflare Turnstile, which runs under Cloudflare's own policy.

4. How long we keep it

Your account, picks and points: for as long as your account exists. Delete the account and they go with it.

Sign-in records, event logs, sent-text logs, contact messages and analytics: we keep them only as long as they are useful for that purpose.

5. Your choices

Texts: reply STOP to any text, or untick the box in your profile. Either way they stop.

Your display name is what other players see. Nobody sees your email address. Change the name in your profile whenever you like.

Your profile is yours to edit: name, province, postal code, team, birth date, phone number.

To delete your account and everything with it, email [email protected] from the address on the account. Same address if you want to know what we hold about you.

6. Our Reddit app

We publish a Reddit app, fgc-games, that keeps a pinned post and a sidebar widget on r/firstgoalcontest showing the next Canadian games and the last few first goals.

It collects nothing. It reads one public page of this site, the same one anybody can open, and writes that post and that widget. It does not read Reddit users, posts, comments or moderation queues, it never comments, messages or votes, and it stores nothing about anyone who sees it. It cannot tell who is reading the post, so nothing about you reaches us that way.
